The Newark Siege Token Campaign is based around a modern–day interpretation of siege coins produced during the English civil war when Newark was besieged and had to produce its own tokens to pay for goods and services. Today businesses in and around Newark are besieged by the recession and have devised a scheme to encourage consumers and businesses to buy goods and services locally. This campaign entitled 'Newark Siege Token Campaign' will initially offset the cost of car parking by having a two part car ticket which has a printed siege token that can be traded with participating shops as a percentage discount on goods and services. The discount will be based on a minimum spend of £15 and the participating business / retailer will refund £1.50. Only one token can be exchanged for each transaction and will only involve discount on goods, not a monetary refund, this discount will offset the average value costs of two hours parking in participating car parks. Participating businesses/retailers within the town will display a window sticker to identify that they are part of the scheme. Further opportunities exist for discounts available from participating businesses and retailers within Newark & Sherwood who will be offering a percentage discount on goods and services which will be publicised on this website and within their business/store. Business wishing to participate will register on this site and will identify which goods and services they are offering and any conditions which might apply. Newark siege tokens will be available from local newspapers and magazines and will be downloadable from this site. |
